Let’s clarify some common misconceptions surrounding orthotics and foot care:

Orthotics is the profession

Orthoses is what we work with to help you.

Orthotics are not insoles

Orthoses are the externally applied devices used to modify the structure and characteristics of the skeletal system.

Orthotics are for feet

Orthoses do not just cover foot issues; orthotics is a term that is also used for all bracing and splints.

Orthotics are for seniors

Orthotics will be helpful for anyone experiencing foot pain, leg pain, strains and aches, lower back pain, poor balance or poor circulation, regardless of age.

Orthotics are hard and can be painful

Correctly fitted orthoses will never increase your pain. Depending on what you need, your orthoses will be as soft or as firm as required to assist with your recovery. We will adjust them to fit comfortably.

Foot orthoses make your feet dependent on them

Your feet do not become dependent on them. Custom foot orthoses provide essential support in key areas that improve function and/or limit excess motion that can otherwise cause stress to the foot.

Off-the-shelf insoles work the same as custom-made ones

Off-the-shelf (OTS) devices and insoles bought from a retail store, sports shop or pharmacy range from small gel heel cups to full-length memory foam insoles with various padding, support, and materials.

The biggest difference is that none of these insoles considers your individual needs, nor are they made to properly fit your foot.

They are also soft, shock absorbing and provide little arch support. Orthoses, although similar, are custom designed and are made for a specific issue you may have.

Custom-fitted orthotics are more expensive

Correctly fitted, effective orthoses will save you money in the long-term, as OTS devices typically have a shorter life span, may aggravate your condition and more than likely will be totally ineffective.

Orthotic footwear is bulky and unfashionable

Customised footwear does not have to threaten your fashion sense; we stock an extensive range of modern orthotic leisure, casual and dress shoes, for men and women.

You're one step closer to freedom.
