Welcome to our FAQ's page

If you have a question that isn't answered here, please feel free to contact us.

What’s the difference between podiatrists & orthotists?

Orthotists are tertiary qualified allied health professionals who assess and treat the physical and functional limitations that result from illnesses and disabilities. They use orthotic devices to assist in this treatment.

Podiatrists are medical professionals devoted to the study and medical treatment of the foot, often with the aid of specialised insoles.

What’s the difference between Insoles & Orthotics footwear?

Insoles are often bought from a retail store, sports shop or pharmacy. They are soft, shock absorbing and provide little arch support.

Orthotses are like insoles but are custom designed and made for a specific issue you may have. They don’t just deal with foot issues; orthotics is the term used for all bracing and splints.

Will the computerised image taken at a sports retail store show me the cause of my discomfort?

No, it will show pressure but not the cause. This is where the orthotic profession comes in.

Will an off-the-shelf insole fix my aching foot?

It will depend on the cause of the pain. An off-the-shelf insole will not consider your individual needs, nor is it made to properly fit your foot. Off-the-shelf products are also soft, shock absorbing, and provide little arch support.

Is an expensive knee brace necessarily better than a cheaper one?

Not always; it will depend on your specific problem. A professional Orthotist will correctly diagnose the cause of your pain, provide medical advice and fit the correct type of brace for an effective outcome. An ill-fitting brace will be ineffective and will not help to reduce your pain.

You're one step closer to freedom.
